Bryce commenced his career in music at the
age of 9, studying guitar privately, until he entered secondary school and
commenced advanced training in classical guitar. He made his debut as a
performer while still in high school, playing both classical and popular
music to a wide range of audiences. He continued his studies at the West
Australian College of Advanced Education (Edith Cowan University), at the
same time as teaching classical guitar to undergraduate music students.
After graduating from university, Bryce commenced his career as a full
time music teacher with the Western Australian Department of Education,
where he remained for 18 years. Bryce has been an active member of a
number of different groups, including concert bands, guitar ensembles and
popular music groups.He is
now an administrator with the Western Australian Department of Education,
and instigated the formation of Smooth to give like - minded musicians an
opportunity to perform in a vibrant and challenging environment.
Catherina Bremner
Cat has appeared in Smooth
in a number of guises, initially as a sax player, and then developing her
skills as a back up vocalist. She now shares the role of lead vocalist
with Julie, and her powerful solos continue the fine tradition that she has
set as a performing musician. Cat and Julie's duets contribute beautifully
to the music that is Smooth.
Paul Easton
Paul completed his studies of music at Western Australian
Academy of Performing Arts in 2003, after studying music at Perth Modern Senior
High School. Paul has been a member of many different groups nationwide
and internationally, including jazz bands, orchestras, wind orchestras,
various vocal groups and Smooth. Paul has expanded his skills in Smooth,
arranging much of the playlist for the horn section of the band. Paul runs
our affiliate sound
reinforcement business, About
Sounds, which provides the PA equipment that helps Smooth with its
unique sound.
Martin Ruck
Martin first played guitar at the age of
fourteen, and has continued playing in various bands throughout Western
Australia. He has also previously in bands with Bryce, including the band
Details. Along with his son Ashley, Martin provides the rhythm guitar
section of Smooth.
Michael Robinson
Michael learnt to play the Drum kit whilst in the Royal
Australian Navy, and for a short time was a percussion teacher at the RAN
school of music. After he retired from the navy he joined the WA Education
Department and is now teaching percussion techniques to students in the
Perth South Metropolitan area. He keeps his performance skills up to par
by playing in bands like Smooth and the Armadale City Concert Band. He
also runs a small business repairing most percussion instruments.
